POW WOW 1997
W.D. Boyce Council BSA
Coming November 1, 1997
Illinois Central College
Why Pow Wow?
Pow Wow is annual supplementary training for Cub Scout Leaders. More than that, it is a fun day learning and doing things that are definitely out of the ordinary. Pow Wow proves that learning can be fun!
Registration
-
For those who preregistered, check-in is a snap. Pick your envelope out of one of the nine alphabetized boxes and go! Thanks, Barb, this method really works! Last year the lines stretched out the door!
-
Registration at the door and class swapping was almost that easy... staff at the ready and tickets laid out on the table. Things are easy when Scout's Honor is at work.
-
Since she has the registration under control, Barb Pope recruits for another event! Gary Town (left) will be Day Camp director next summer!
Opening Ceremony
-
"All Out for Scouting" chairman, Rob Berry, opens the meeting.
-
Keynote speaker from "National" provides a (mercifully) brief kick-off to the day's festivities.
-
Give them what they want, or, even, just a comfortable place to sit, and some of them will come!
Midway Exhibits
-
Mollie Perrot, POW WOW chairman, puts herself in the Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge picture. This display was prepared by CSTWB staffer Shirley Dresden. (Mollie's beads are from Boy Scout Leader Wood Badge.)
-
Another Midway exhibitor, the National Rifle Association, shows its program options available for Scouting.
-
The Wenasa Quenhotan Lodge #23, Order of the Arrow, shows off its history and its book of camping alternatives.
Some of the other exhibits not shown include the Peoria Park District, Peoria Amateur Radio Club, Wildlife Prairie Park, Council Training Committee, Lakeview Center, and Birch Bark (the council's Junior Leader Training).
Some Program Sessions
-
Jane E. Catton's Neckerchief Slides "made from almost anything" has another stellar year at POW WOW. Jane's session has become one of the most popular!
-
One of the Wood Craft projects... If a leader can do it, surely a Cub Scout can!
-
Cub Scout Crafts on display...
-
And Cub Scout Craft materials "at the ready!"
-
Lots of Cub Scout skills went into this walking stick. Is she proud of her creation! Adapted from a course that I attended at Fort Cambell HOW WOW (1994), this class is another "sold out" session.
-
The top of the walking stick is adorned with a bead and some wood burning.
-
Retired District Commissioner, Dave, conducts a session for Unit Commissioners.
Tot Lot
-
The "tot lot" allows parents to go have fun while the youngsters learn new skills.
-
A bit of jousting practice in the "tot lot arena."
Closing
-
POW WOW chairman, Mollie Perrot, closes this year's POW WOW. Well done, Mollie!
